What will you learn about?

Students will increase their technical knowledge of trust law and how it can be applied in their day-to-day duties in trust and estate administration. In addition to reviewing the responsibilities of trustees, executors and administrators, they will also learn about complex circumstances that can occur while administering an estate or trust. Upon completion of the course students will:

  • Identify potential liabilities and take action to minimize risk for the executor and trustee
  • Understand the nature of trusts, their components and applications under Common Law (Civil Code if in Quebec)
  • Discern the roles and responsibilities of trustees, executors, liquidators and administrators
  • Explain the requirements for a legal will
  • Identify what to do in the case of the death of an executor or trustee renunciation
  • Recognize special circumstances, including challenging a will, family law and illegitimacy and adoption, and mental capacity for testamentary purposes
  • Provide exceptional service to beneficiaries

LET is one of the requirements for CSI’s MTI® Estate and Trust Professional designation. It can also be taken as a stand-alone course.
